LOVEFOOL
Collectors Preview
Chicago, IL, November 8, 2019 - NYCH Gallery is pleased to present New Works by Icelandic Artist Baldur Helgason; “Lovefool.” This is the artist’s second exhibition with the gallery.
“Through his work, Helgason experiments with the depiction of the human figure, playfully exaggerating the features and toying with representation of human emotions. While playful and humorous on the surface, a lot of these images are actually portraying anxiety, loneliness, and melancholy, all presented through the life of a comic-like character. Big-eyed, big nosed and with impossible limbs, this jolly fella feels as if he walked out of a classic cartoon, yet he is regularly portrayed while smoking drinking or getting involved in some sort of mischief.” Saša Bogojev, Juxtapoz
With his new body of work presented in this exhibition, Baldur mines the concept of “love” in art. Love – what else matters? But Love is complicated, and we, as humans, are powerless in the face of love and death. Baldur has created a series of oil paintings that investigate his own feelings, and the concept of love as portrayed in art history and popular culture.
